Biography

Nicholas Papadimitriou

Born in Athens (Greece), Nicholas Papadimitriou is an interdisciplinary musician active as an organist, improviser and educator.

Active on multiple fronts in the music scene, he currently holds the position of Music Director at the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk in Amsterdam, while in May he will be once more collaborating with Nicolas Jaar in a series of concerts as part of the ‘Playing the Cathedral’ event at the Oude Kerk. In the meantime, he is writing his second book ‘The Game of Tones’; an innovative approach to creative music-making (to release in Q4 of 2019).

Since 2013, Nicholas has been studying organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of Jacques van Oormerssen, Pieter van Dijk, and Matthias Havinga. In this time, he also had numerous masterclasses with Louis Robilliard.
Currently, he is finishing his Master’s degree, during which he focused on exploring in improvisation both from a performing as well as pedagogical perspective. There he also established a research project dedicated to the development of teaching methods that promote creative music-making.

In this period, he has regularly performed in numerous venues across the Netherlands, such as the Orgelpark, the Waalse Kerk and the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, [where he collaborated with Nicolas Jaar during his residency in October 2018.
